Upon waking up to leave Missoula the team’s morale was super
high for the day. It was the first sunny day we’ve had while on the road and
the cyclists were SO thankful. The ride was about 80 miles into Phillipsburg,
Montana. If you’ve ever seen a western movie or cartoon where two people are
about to duel in the middle of a western town where tumbleweed would roll
through, that’s what Phillipsburg looks like. We stayed at the high school on
the top of the hill and to give you an idea of how small their classes are,
last year’s graduating class was less than 20 people.
While in town, the team decided to go get candy from this
really popular candy store. One of the cyclists, Blake, turned 21 so his
parents sponsored it and bought everyone a bag of candy for Blake’s birthday. I
was able to try Huckleberry candy that my friend Olivia recommended and it was
SO good! I told her I’m going to have her send me stock in Huckleberry products
because that’s how good it was. I wish we grew them out east! After the candy
trip we went to dinner at a place called Doe Brothers Soda Fountain. It was so
weird because the only other old-fashioned soda shop I’ve seen is the one back
home in Ceredo-Kenova. We had a spaghetti dinner and got a chance to talk to
the sponsors of the dinner too. Upon coming back to the gym, the guys all
changed and went out for Blake’s birthday to celebrate and those of us under 21
spent the night just conversing and reading our books.
