When we arrived in Boulder we went to a community center in
town that hosted a local group called EXPAND. We had a friendship visit with
them and they had some empathy activities planned that were pretty fun. After
that we debriefed them and also had lunch with them and we got the chance to
meet Doug Matthews who sponsored lunch and represents Case Logic and Thule. I’m
so thankful for their sponsorship because they bag and luggage they provided is
more than awesome.
After lunch we went to lodging and was there for a very
brief period. Then we left and went to the recreation center and met up with a group
of men that participate in Murder Ball which is rugby in wheelchairs. It was SO
intense. The guys had a great time playing the game and once it was all said
and done we had a pizza dinner with a bunch of the CU – Boulder guys. The
chapter of Pi Kapp at Boulder is famous for having a bunch of guys sign up for
JOH annually. We have three on our route alone. Boulder is one of the most
cycling-friendly cities in the country and I definitely enjoyed the vibe that I
got there.
An interesting aspect of our stop in Boulder was since we
came through right when the fires in Colorado were going on we got to see a
fire starting on the other side of the mountain in Boulder. By the time we left
dinner that night we actually got to see flames reaching the peak so that was
definitely a crazy experience.
